Providing food security

Charitable Impact

Omni PGA Frisco Resort & Spa is proud to partner with the North Texas Food Bank, naming it the Charity of Choice for the inaugural SAVOR event. Over the past 13 years, Omni Hotels & Resorts has demonstrated extraordinary generosity, helping to provide nearly one million meals to those in need. A portion of the proceeds from SAVOR ticket sales will go directly to the North Texas Food Bank to help fight hunger in the area.

About North Texas Food Bank

In 1982, four Dallas women pledged to fight hunger in North Texas. These visionary leaders – Jo Curtis, Kathryn Hall, Lorraine Griffin Kircher, and Liz Minyard – began collecting and distributing donations of surplus food and grocery products through a network of charitable organizations across North Texas, establishing the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB).

This network covered 13 counties that comprise the current NTFB service area: Dallas, Collin, Fannin, Rockwall, Hunt, Grayson, Kaufman, Ellis, Navarro, Lamar, Delta, Hopkins, and formerly Denton.Through persistence and generous community support, in its first year, the NTFB distributed more than 400,000 pounds, approximately 350,000 meals, of food to our neighbors experiencing hunger. In 1983, members of NTFB’s organizing committee joined members of the Texas Legislature to help pass the Good Faith Donor Act, which protected donors from liability of donations or donated product. After this, many more North Texans were inspired to donate. Today, more than 40 years later, the NTFB is still supported by a generous and compassionate community that cares deeply about helping North Texans achieve food security. As the hunger crisis has grown over the years, NTFB has expanded from distributing 400,000 pounds of food a year to today's efforts of providing over 2 million weekly meals.

According to Feeding America, Texas now leads the nation in hunger with North Texas ranking eighth nationwide in terms of food insecurity, with nearly 664,000 people—40% of them children—struggling to access enough food. To put that into perspective, it’s as if the entire population of cities like Boston or Las Vegas were facing hunger daily.

In its 2024 fiscal year, NTFB and its Feeding Network, which includes nearly 500 partner food pantries and community organizations, provided a record-breaking 106.4 million physical meals—an increase of almost 10% from the previous year— and an additional 19.4 million meals accessed through SNAP. For over four decades, NTFB has been at the forefront of the fight against hunger, working tirelessly to ensure that no one in our community goes without food.

NTFB’s efforts extend beyond just providing meals. Through a network of dedicated volunteers, donors, and feeding partners, NTFB reaches those in need while offering nutrition education, supporting local pantries, and advocating for policies that address the root causes of hunger. NTFB believes everyone deserves access to nutritious food that nourishes both body and life regardless of circumstances.
